Wata Igarashi returns to BASEMENT for a special all night set. Igarashi is one of the grandmasters of modern, synth-forward hypnotic techno. An exceptional craftsman, his productions have stood out since his debut releases in the early 2010s for their combination of raw, gripping immediacy and careful, subtle sound design. To listen to Igarashi’s music is to be submerged in a rich and captivating sonic world, and his releases have found a home on many of the best labels of our time. Igarashi pays homage to a storied legacy of heady, cerebral Japanese techno, but his work nonetheless stands apart. Last year he released “My Supernova,” his first long player for Dekmantel, and the album is a tour de force of pure flow state techno, marked by a confidently wild-eyed power. Intense? Of course it is. But, as with all his work, it’s also mesmerizing, cathartic and beautiful. This night will be unmissable.
